Principal Surveyer Tim Barker – AMYSDA, MRINA, BMSE
Tim has worked in the marine industry for over thirty years and has a wealth of experience in both powered and sailing vessels. This experience has been not only been in building, repairing and maintaining boats but also in brokerage and new boat sales which he is been involved with for many years. Along with this he is a boat owner himself (having owned a number of different sailing yachts and powerboats), and has cruised extensively through Europe and Caribbean.
“I believe this wide and varied experience gives me a more balanced view when reporting on defects and an eye for detecting the unusual that could be costly to repair or seriously affect the vessel’s sea worthiness or value”
The yacht surveying industry is largely unregulated except through voluntary memberships to trade associations. These associations only allow members to join when they have proved to the governing committees via testing that they are competent at marine surveying and hold suitable professional indemnity insurance to cover the type of work they carry out.
Tim is a past committee member of the Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association (YDSA) and of the British Marine Surveyors Europe (BMSE) He has also achieved a Diploma with distinction in Practical & Small Craft Surveying at the International Boat Training Centre in Lowestoft.
